Old St. Vincent Church, its current structure built in 1853, is constructed in a cruciform plan similar to the great cathedrals of Europe. It is of English Gothic Revival style and said to be one of six churches of this style within the United States.
Comments heard from world travelers visiting Old St. Vincent Church are always rewarding to our tour guides. Restored during the 1980s, visitors cannot believe that there is such an amazing "old world structure" in a small river city in mid-America. This magnificent old church, a religious & cultural center, is a source of community pride for both Catholics and non-Catholics throughout the region.
The church is generally open for tours on Saturdays during the spring and fall season (1 – 4 P.M.) with summer tours from mid-May to Labor Day scheduled Tuesday through Sunday afternoons (1 – 4 P.M.). Tours may also be arranged by appointment by calling the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Cape Girardeau @ (573)335-1631. Old St. Vincent Church is one of the many historic sites offered to visitors of Cape Girardeau.
